The project is lead by CEMVO and is being delivered by CEMVO together with 8 partner organisations. A Project Steering Group (PSG) composed of the partner organisations, LBTH and external advisors will oversee the delivery of project activities and provide support and direction in order for the project to meet its aims and objectives.
A brief description of the activities and role of each partner and delivery agencies are as follows:
CEMVO - Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Sector Organisations
Project Activity: CEMVO leads the programme and is responsible of its efficient implementation and monitoring of the project. It also delivers capacity building to 30 organisations and 150 individuals. The programme covers the 10 organisational development issues listed above (B). Organisations completing the programme will receive a certificate certified by the University of East London and CEMVO.
Alternative Arts
Project Activity: Alternative Arts is an independent arts organisation based in Spitalfields. During 2005/2006 main activities include Alternative Fashion Week; The Spitalfields Literary Festival celebrating women’s writing; Photomonth and community development events including the Spitalfields Community Festival.
UXL - The Old Baths
Project Activity: UXL is an East London community organisation delivering various training activities. We are proud to be part of Tower Hamlets Building Sustainable Communities Project and will delivering accredited training in ICT, Food Hygiene, Health & Safety and customised training to 70 individuals from CED post codes of Tower Hamlet.
EMEP Business Development Centre
Project Activity: EMEP will develop and deliver a ‘Social and Community Enterprise Development Programme’ targeting the black and ethnic minority community organisations active in the CED areas of Tower Hamlets. In particular, EMEP will identify the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for these organisations and produce plans and strategies for Business, Marketing and Funding for each participating organisation.
Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI)
Project Activity: JCWI is an independent national organisation which campaigns for justice in immigration, nationality and refugee law and policy. JCWI provides expert training in the field of immigration law and policy to lawyers, community groups, and individuals affected by these policies. The organisation also undertakes strategic casework and publishes the popular JCWI Handbook.
London Muslim Centre (LMC)
Project Activity: The landmark London Muslim Centre (LMC) joins in partnership with a variety of local service providers to offer a suite of learning and development programmes. The LMC currently offers over 30 different services to the community. The wide ranging nature means that a holistic approach towards addressing local issues is adopted and users of the facilities can use one or more services that contribute towards improving their quality of life. The learning and development programme will offer basic skills courses to men and women, and will look to address key skills deficits in the local community. This will include First Aid, Health and Safety, ESOL, Childcare amongst others.
Account 3 Womens Consultancy Service
Project Activity: Account3 Women’s Consultancy Service was established in 1991 to provide support for local women to access jobs. The main aim was to offer support to those women who faced multiple disadvantage in the job market. The project will aim to identify and train 60 women living or volunteering in the CED areas of Tower Hamlets. The training will be in childcare related fields and accredited to national standards. All participants will be offered, if they require, IT and basic skills training alongside the childcare qualifications.
Stifford TJRS-TRA Community Centre
Project Activity: Stifford TJRS-TRA Community Centre is a non profit organisation based in Stepney. As a centre point in the community for multi cultural and diverse activities, Stifford has become renowned for delivering project that caters for the local people. Some of the projects running currently are;
Summer Project, Mother Tongue classes, Women cultural classes, Elders Resource project & Advanced ICT, Management and Accountancy project.
Back to Basics
Project Activity: Back to Basics Somali Refugee Training is a Somali led arts group, based in St Margaret's House in Bethnal Green. The organisation aims to use traditional arts and crafts as a medium to engage isolated Somali women and to promote progression into mainstream education. The women will learn a range of new skills, particularly those that encourage collaboration, such as papermaking and related techniques, stitching, weaving, silk screen printing and quilting. The project also supports women to produce artefacts which will then be exhibited and form the basis for portfolios to gain access to higher education. The course targets Somali woman from the CED areas of Tower Hamlets and runs one day a week in Bethnal Green.
