The need for volunteering
Volunteering has become an essential part of life in Britain today, generating more working hours than Europes’ largest employer, the NHS.
Often minority ethnic communities miss out on volunteering opportunities and the benefits from participating. At CEMVO we have developed specific programmes for minority ethnic groups, making volunteering more accessible, so that communities can gain confidence and move from the margins to the mainstream of society.
The benefits to the community
CEMVO runs a number of programmes aimed at specific volunteering opportunities, for instance our NHS programme (www.cemvo.org.uk/volunteering) and our young people’s volunteering project in Bristol. We can also assist in obtaining funding for volunteering and organise placements for groups and individuals. Our volunteering programmes enable participants to contribute to the community and can lead to employment, education opportunities or a career change, thus improving the life of individuals and enhancing the community.
